The Mistmane Gift Box I Could Not Stop Turning Over in My Hands

I am a girl in China running my own small card shop, and most days I am surrounded by KAYOU My Little Pony cards. Since opening my independent store, I have become the person who explains mainland releases to European collectors: what a product is called, what is random and what the official announcement actually confirms.

When I picked up the 骐骥鬃华 gift box, I forgot about making a neat list for a moment. It felt more like a picture book taken from Mistmane's story.

Mistmane's face covers almost the entire front. Rainbow foil runs through her horn, eyes and curling mane, with flowers, clouds and tiny points of light around her. I tilted the box back and forth several times just to watch the colours move.

The front is beautiful and impossible to miss. The artwork that made me go quiet is hidden on the back of the binder.

My favourite part is on the back

A full illustration has been pressed into the turquoise surface in fine gold lines. Mistmane stands in the middle, releasing her magic while auspicious clouds gather and flowers spread around her hooves. The gold does not look like something casually printed on top. It feels almost branded into the binder.

At first, I only thought it was pretty. Then I returned to Mistmane's story, and the picture became a little sadder.

Mistmane comes home to a village that has lost its life and beauty. After defeating her former friend Sable Spirit, who had been changed by jealousy, Mistmane gives up her own physical beauty to make the land bloom again and restore the beauty Sable Spirit had lost. The binder does not copy the animated scene exactly. Its clouds and wide field of flowers feel like a new artist's memory of it.

The picture does not linger on the sadness of Mistmane growing old. It holds onto the instant when her magic reaches the ground and the flowers return. She looks gentle, but never weak. To me, her independent spirit is not loud rebellion. It is her choice to give life back to a home that had already hurt her.

That is why I keep turning the binder over. The portrait makes me think, "Mistmane looks beautiful." The garden makes me love her story again.

Inside, the binder has white four-pocket pages and a zip around the edge. I immediately started imagining the three puzzle cards on one page, with my favourite Mistmane card saved for the fourth pocket.

What my hands reached for first

Everything sits in its own space inside the fitted black insert. I reached for the binder first. Only then did I look at the collectible cards, the battle-card box and the pack of character sleeves beside it.

There are six possible Mane Six sleeve designs. Each box contains one random design, with 70 sleeves in the pack. Randomness is supposed to be part of the fun, but this choice left me a little torn. I like the Mane Six, of course. Still, every other part of this box is telling Mistmane's story. A fixed Mistmane sleeve would have made the set feel complete.

Then there is the random RR※ card. KAYOU has shown six designs, each placing Mistmane with one member of the Mane Six.Twilight joins her for calligraphy. Fluttershy cuddles pandas with her. Pinkie Pie brings firecrackers into the picture. They do not feel like six characters placed into a checklist. They feel like small glimpses of Mistmane spending a day with each of them.

I still cannot decide which of the six pairings I would most like to pull. The Twilight card is so calm, but the Fluttershy card is painfully cute. Beyond those six, the RR※ group also includes a released solo Mistmane hidden card. The Mane Six pairings feel like small, playful stories; the solo card finally gives the whole picture back to Mistmane herself.

The solo card has been released, but the RR※ card in the gift box remains random. Its existence does not make it a one-per-box guarantee.

Among the published artwork, the three CR※ puzzle cards are still my favourites. Each card holds part of Mistmane's movement and ink-wash background. Place all three together and her long mane flows through one wider turquoise composition. They also fit naturally across one binder page, leaving the fourth pocket for a personal favourite.

I will not pretend to understand the deck before playing it

The battle-card component is listed as a fixed starter deck, and its cards are in Chinese. It gives you something ready to study instead of asking you to build a deck from nothing.

I have not played enough real games with it yet. I do not want to look at a handful of card images and start lecturing readers about its archetype, opening turns and perfect strategy. I would rather put it on the table, lose a few games and discover which card I keep forgetting before I write that article.

For now, I am glad KAYOU did not leave the "TCG" part outside the gift box. The sleeves can be used, the deck can be played and the binder has somewhere to keep the cards I love. Whether the deck is fun deserves an honest game first.

A few things I would tell a European collector

This is a mainland China product with Chinese-language cards. The language matters very little if you want Mistmane, the binder or the regional artwork. If you plan to play, you will need a Chinese card reference or a reliable translation.

The gift box first appeared at BW before reaching KAYOU's mainland stores.^[1] The sleeve character, RR※ design and collectible-card contents are random. Each box has an individual number, but a particular number cannot be selected. The solo Mistmane RR※ hidden card has been released, but it is not guaranteed in every box.

The close-up photographs of the box and binder in this article come from the product in our hands. Where I did not have a physical card to photograph, I used KAYOU's published gallery and labelled it under the image. Being in China means I can often see mainland releases sooner. It does not improve the pull rates. I would rather show you the box, the sources and the things I still do not know, and let you decide for yourself.

Before closing it, I still turned the binder over and looked at the garden once more.

Mistmane gives up her own beauty and leaves the land blooming behind her. The gold lines hold that moment against the turquoise cover. When I remember this gift box, I think it will be Mistmane standing quietly in a field of flowers.
